Mary was the sixth child (of seven) of David Smith and Anne Orrock Watson, who were both Dundee residents and had married at St Joseph’s RC Church in 1907. In anticipation of Armed Forces Day, which takes place on Saturday, 24th June this year, celebrations began on Monday 19 June when the Armed Forces Day flag was raised on buildings and famous landmarks around the country.
